Tucker B's
A new release from Tucker B’s, this lo-fi Australian band who, though formed in the last century, have not been massively prolific over the intervening years between 1994 and today. They have ramped things up a bit this side of the millennium though with two albums and an EP coming out in the last seven years.
Passion Pit
This time a year ago, Passion Pit were on very few people’s radars. That altered with the Chunk of Change EP, half an hour of cute, vibrant electro-pop. They even came ready-packaged with their own convenient little piece of indie mythology, that the EP was originally recorded by the band’s mainstay Michael Angelakos as a Valentine’s Day gift for his girlfriend.
Au Revoir Simone
Single number one from the Still Night, Still Light album, this is a great upbeat but melancholic track that would not be unduly impacted by another minute in length just so you could wallow in the heart tugging beauty of it.
Dag For Dag - Shooting From The Shadows
Another Swedish duo here, of which there seem to be quite a few being promoted around the place just now.
Voxtrot - Trepanation Party
You know what makes it hard to review CDs? When your girlfriend is in the room attempting to sing along without knowing the words, so all you can hear is the beat and a voice in your left ear going “Nahnahnaaahhnaaaaahhh!”. That said, it shows the strength of the track’s solid groove, created by big splashy piano chords and percussive guitars, with just enough drums to hold it all together.

Madonna is about as vocally accomplished as a dying dog; she continues to abuse audiences at her faux-spectacular live shows, and her acting career has been about as successful as my last effort to win the lottery (I didn’t understand the damn thing and gave up).
A Scholar & A Physician
Coming on like a combination of Young Knives and Klaxons, A Scholar & A Physician’s title track is a high octane love ode to the Wicked Witch of The West it seems, with tongues firmly planted in electro-boy cheeks of course. A great single to usher in British Summer Time with from the Abingdon/London duo, who are also the production team behind a lot of the upcoming Chicks On Speed album.
Franz Ferdinand
A handsome bunch of boys making the kind of jagged artpop that fills indie disco floors and makes all the girls swoon, Franz Ferdinand are the H. G. Wells of the British music world. From Alex Kapranos’ effortless style to cheekbones as angular as their riffs, they are a case in point of recycling in music.
The Paper Chase
Ah, the curse of indie band name dissonance strikes again.
