Le Corps Mince de Françoise - Bitch Of The Bitches

Scandinavian electro, unlike the rock or pop from the same part of the world, has tended more towards the dour, introspective side of life that long dark winters maybe inspire in people. Not so Helsinki’s Le Corps Mince De Françoise but then with a name like that the playfulness clues are already all there.

With this new single the three girls give as upbeat and danceable a tune as you’re likely to find this side of the Arctic Circle. Owing a fair amount to the output and stylings of Peaches and Le Tigre they may find themselves labelled as the Finnish CSS but that’s hardly a bad thing and they’ve enough of their own presence evident to not be dismissed as such.

Glasgow has needed a festival like this for ages.

Sonic Youth – The Eternal

May 31, 2009

If anything, new album The Eternal is even more direct and straight-rocking than its predecessor: it’s what 1992’s Dirty might have sounded like without Butch Vig’s polished production.

Deerhunter – Rainwater Cassette Exchange EP

Varied, but not disjointed. Concise, but not half-formed.
