Dag For Dag - Shooting From The Shadows

Dag For Dag - Shooting From The Shadows

Another Swedish duo here, of which there seem to be quite a few being promoted around the place just now.

Dag For Dag sound like Nico fronting a grunged-up Shocking Blue on the initial track here, ‘Ring Me, Elise’ but following that they head towards rather more atmospheric territory.

This is particularly evident on the third track of the six ‘Words’ – simply the two Snavelys (for that is their shared surname) vocalising over a ship’s organ-like backing track.

All in all a decent release that reminded me quite often of early PJ Harvey, if a bit less raucous. The Skibunny remix at the end (of ‘You Holler, You Scream’) is a nice end to the package and certainly brings out unseen properties in the song.

Other than selected single tracks here and there from long-dead sixties bands I don’t reckon I’ve heard much by Argentinian rock groups.

May 31, 2009

Glasgow has needed a festival like this for ages.

Sonic Youth – The Eternal

May 31, 2009

If anything, new album The Eternal is even more direct and straight-rocking than its predecessor: it’s what 1992’s Dirty might have sounded like without Butch Vig’s polished production.

Deerhunter – Rainwater Cassette Exchange EP

May 31, 2009

Varied, but not disjointed. Concise, but not half-formed.
